Hello Elixir World (Introductions thread)

Hi, I’m Jacopo.
I’m learning Elixir and Phoenix just to try something new and different from usual.
In uni I had to use SML, and I hated it (I think because of my professor) but I’m liking Elixir so far!

Hi, Herman here from Antwerp in Belgium.

I fell in love with elixir back in 2015, it runs my businesses, Octarion and GratWiFi.

I have been around this forum for years but only just now came across this topic.

So hi from the land of beers and good food.

Hi, I’m @ausimian from Sydney, Australia.

I was a long-time admirer of Erlang going back over 20 years, but really got into Elixir about 5 years ago. I’ve had a bifurcated career split between low-level device-side software; I was a Principal Engineer on Microsoft Hololens (if anyone remembers that), and server-side software (HFT, FPGA-based trading, real-time risk). I’m the author of a few libraries including castle and exmobiledevice. Nowadays, I’m lucky enough to do Elixir full-time (we’re hiring - pm me if you’re in Australia) and am normally lurking on this forum.

Hello!

Hey @AstonJ,

I am Steve and I am from California, USA. I am a seasoned DevOps Engineer with over a decade of experience in tech industry.

Beyond work, I appreciate open air exercises like climbing and cycling, which not only rejuvenate my mind but also inspire creative solutions to technical challenges.

I believe in work-life balance and advocates for mental well-being within teams, recognizing the importance of a supportive and inclusive work culture.

Thanks,
Steve

Hi there. I’m Jaron, an SRE from Melbourne AU. I’ve been interested in Erlang and Elixir for many many years, however haven’t really ever built anything beyond a small uni project using Phoenix. The recent release of Ash 3.0 has sparked some motivation for me to get back in and play around with it all again

Hi, Mark here, from Leeds in the UK. I’ve been programming professionally since the early '90s starting with C then Borland Pascal, Delphi and then C#. F# piqued my interest in Functional languages, and I’m exploring Elixir, Ash, Pheonix for my own projects and learning.

Hi! I’m Nabil from Morocco. I’m a self-taught programmer and Linux user. I started with PHP in ~2006. A couple of years a go, my -then relatively new- colleagues introduced me to Elixir, I loved it. I’m still learning it.

Hello, everyone!

I’m Benjamin, based in Trondheim, Norway, where I’m currently studying. I got into Elixir about four months ago when I wanted to learn more about functional programming and heard great things about the Phoenix framework. Looking forward to chatting with you all!

Hello from Aarhus, Denmark. I’m one of the longest lurkers ever. Have the first edition book on Erlang from Pragmatic (1st ed. of this Programming Erlang (2nd edition) by Joe Armstrong) and got it signed by Joe Armstrong many years ago. Wanted to use Erlang for a project, that was very suited, but instead we tried Java followed by C++ followed by C# - I didn’t stay till the end. Now I want to give Elixir a go and learn some web-programming with Phoenix and LiveView.

Hi! I am Thomas from New Jersey, US. I am recently researching how to rewrite my small Django CRM apps with something better. I found out a bit about Elixir and the web framework, Phoenix which is quite similar to Django. Elixir reminded me of learning functional programming with Lisp in college many years ago. After so many years of programming in C, C++, Java and Python, might be time to try one, Elixir
I thought of Dart or Rust server frameworks to replace Django but I think Elixir/Phoenix is the best choice. With a week of reading about Elixir/Phoenix, I love it already!
