How do you describe Erlang/Elixir in the context of a system/app?

Now erlang/elixir is a very good concurrent “glue” which you can use to bind all the different bits together.

Well in context of glue I tend to describe the BEAM as used for I/O, whether that’s network I/O or I/O to other processes in other languages or even direct NIF calls if necessary, but it is fantastic at I/O and managing processes among many disparate things.
