Thank you for Ecto SQLite3!
Hello everyone, here is the recent Elixir Mentor podcast episode – thank you @jacobluetzow !
Apologies for the potato quality of my video. My ADSL was apparently synchronized at 0.7 Mbit (!) upload speeds…
Hello everyone – here’s another episode of Leanpub’s “Frontmatter” podcast on the book. This time, it’s less about the content and way more about why and how it was written, and also the psychological aspects of writing such a book, and especially of the last stretch with rounds of QA, rewrites, etc.
Happy Easter everyone! I’m also celebrating my 42nd birthday today so:
For the next 24 hours, Northwind Elixir Traders is 42% off from the minimum price on Leanpub, for the first 21 readers who use this link:
Enjoy! A sequel with a non-toy database is already in the works, and I will publish the first couple of chapters in the next weeks: Phoenix Product… by Isaak Tsalicoglou [Leanpub PDF/iPad/Kindle]

Hi everyone, in case you found Northwind Elixir Traders useful in learning Ecto by modeling a toy database and analyzing its toy dataset, I have a new book currently in development with a focus on implementing a full-blown REST API with Phoenix, for a real-world application.
The project of the book is an Elixir/Phoenix re-implementation of the core of ProductItems API (implemented in Python with FastAPI), which has been in productive use at TECTRA Ltd for years now, and since January also at ISATEK (placeholder website made with Phoenix LiveView, only in Greek), where the Elixir/Phoenix API will be used in the future as the Single Source of Truth of product data.
See the other thread: Phoenix Product Codex: Develop and deploy a REST API for Product Data Management with Elixir and Phoenix (self-published/Leanpub).
Just wanted to say congrats on being distributed by PragProg!
I happened to be looking at PragProg’s website and was very confused for a moment when I saw your book on their homepage.
Hi! I’m really interested in your book, but I just missed the discount. Is there any chance it’s still available?
Don’t forget you can get 35% off with your Devtalk discount! Just use the coupon code “devtalk.com" at checkout on PragProg.com
Thank you!
Where should I report errors and typos?
Also, are the Leanpub and PragProg versions of the book the same? I purchased through Leanpub.
I am really enjoying this book the information on it is golden, it is one of the best elixir resources I have read outside like elixir in action.
I only have one slight complain, is it me or is the font a bit off when it comes to size? I have various leanpub books, but for some reason the size or maybe the layout of the font for this book just throws me off a little bit
The book is the same on Leanpub and on PragProg. Updates go to both distribution channels. You can DM me on Elixir Forum or LinkedIn, and if you need to send more info, email at isaak@overbring.com
Many thanks, happy that you are enjoying it!
Leanpub allows you to customize the theme. Given the amount of code in the book and the book’s length, I opted for a smaller font, so that code listings and IEx snippets fit better on the page. Do you find it uncomfortable for the eyes? Let me know and I can adjust in the next release (on Leanpub and PragProg).
Edit: forgot to mention that I’m in the process of porting Northwind Elixir Traders to Asciidoctor, so that I can be more flexible with formatting of the generated PDF and ePub files (that will eventually end up on both Leanpub and PragProg).
Hey thanks for the reply,
This may be my bias. But i find the fonts too small, which forced me to read the book through my monitor and zoomed in. This is not a huge problem, as it was remedied, but it threw me off from getting into the zone when reading the book, mainly because on one page I might be zoomed in and then i attempt to flick back or forward and have to reset my zoom and page angle etc
I have two leanpub and a pragprog book and I can read them very comfortably on both my laptop screen and monitor without the need for zooming in or switching it to a bigger screen. I hope this helps, I dont mind the code snippets size, I think a better highlight system for the commands like mix tasks being used should also be considered
other than that like i said above, the book is golden and i can tell you put alot of thought and effort into writing it. Just the font size threw me off by breaking my flow maybe others in the thread dont feel the same way
