Stitched is looking for full stack mid/senior Elxir/Ruby/JS engineers (London UK/Remote, Fulltime)

Are you a senior Elixir or Ruby on Rails engineer? Do you want an actual Elixir job? Not just a microservice, but a full platform? Come work for Stitched!

We’ve built an efficient CMS fully based on Elixir, using a novel approach to page data storage. Our pages now render in ~20ms, including database queries and with no caching. This has given us a great platform to build off and we have lots of plans to do just that. Oh, and we’re all-in on LiveView :rocket:

Also, we’re nearly a B-Corp!

About us

My name: Chris Bull
My position: CTO
Company name: Stitched
Website: https://www.stitched.co.uk
Country: UK

Stitched.co.uk is a fast growing company founded in 2016 selling made-to-measure curtains and blinds using 3D customisation technology (moving into other home décor products soon!). Check us out on www.stitched.co.uk and @madebystitched on social!

We believe in a new generation of products that are made from sustainable materials, rather than mass produced synthetic alternatives that are harmful to the environment. We also believe in the power of technology to help customers buy the products they love.

Building a great business is the thing that gets us out of bed in the morning. We’re a pending B-Corp and believe that a better business should focus as much on its employees, customers, suppliers and the world around us as fast growth and profit.

We are backed by the lead early investors in Not-on-the-High-St, Just Eat and Lyst and have ambitious growth plans, starting with making some superstar hires to join the Stitched family. Is that you?

About the job

Job title: Senior fullstack engineer
Job description:
This role is for a smart, enthusiastic, full-stack developer to join our small but very productive team.

We’re a technologically ambitious company, looking to push the state of the art in the home furnishings sector. We aren’t afraid of using interesting and cutting edge technologies if we think they’ll really pay off for us.

We’re looking for someone to help us maintain our web platform, built in Elixir Phoenix (incl. heavy use of Phoenix LiveView), Ruby and a bit of React. We also have some super cool 3D stuff which is written in threejs (plus a bit of GLSL here and there), although for this role that’s definitely not a requirement - if it interests you, though, please say so!

Who are we looking for?

The person who will really love this role is someone who is a good web developer, probably a little biased towards the backend, with a solid understanding of building the modern web stack, how it works, when it works and, most importantly, when it breaks!

If you don’t have 40 years experience across our entire stack, that’s fine! If what we’ve said thus far sounds like something you’d love to work in, please get in touch.

If any/all of these fit you, then we want to chat:

  • An excellent and empathetic listener, able to work productively with the different sides of the business
  • Strong Ruby on Rails and/or Elixir skills
  • Proficiency with modern JS toolchains and language features
  • Familiarity with functional programming in Javascript
  • PostgreSQL experience
  • Modern CSS (familiarity with BEM a plus)
  • Experience with deploying software in the cloud - we use Google and GKE
  • Testing!
  • A strong focus on delivery, you are someone who takes pride in everything they ship, testing thoroughly and owning mistakes.

Mostly, we’re looking for a dynamic team mate, who loves a challenge, has no “wrong side of bed”, comes to work with a bit of hustle and is willing to take initiative.

Technical excellence is key, along with a passion for finding new ways of engaging customers with new technology, but if you really want to be a Stitcher, you’ve also got to be nice, approachable and willing to get stuck in.

Position on remote work: COVID, innit? Ideally UK/EU based for TZ.
What the successful job applicant will be working on: Our platform, which consists of an Ex CMS and Ruby business system. Helping to port that system to Ex.

About the interview process
Initial screen/get to know each other. Then a tech test. Then a full interview. No whiteboarding/trivia.

Further info

We’re growing really well, heads down and focused on hitting some ambitious revenue milestones for our Series A. COVID has been good for us as a business, so come join a company whose equity should prove to be a real bonus.
