# ~/src/livebook/.iex.exs
System.cmd("xdg-open", [ LivebookWeb.Endpoint.access_url() ] )

Because Livebook requires a unique passcode on the first log-in, and this is normally generated at random on each launch, there is a manual copy/paste required from the terminal to the browser.

This helper combines really nicely alongside a ph command I made for my shell, to quickly launch any phoenix app. Once the ph command has Livebook running in an iex session, the browser opens and signs in immediately. Feels as (or more) snappy than the desktop app, because the browser is already running and ready.

If you prefer, you can also set this env var config LIVEBOOK_TOKEN_ENABLED=false to disable Livebook’s token authentication. If you do that, you won’t need any token/password to access Livebook. That’s ok if you’re running Livebook locally just for yourself.

The env var configs are documented here: https://livebook.hexdocs.pm/readme.html#environment-variables
