I think IBM model M is the best device for typing since 1985.
But at the same time there is no option key in original keyboard.
So I’m using Unicomp Spacesaver M.
This is the the most similar modern device.

But now it’s on my shelf and I don’t know when I will use it again since I have switch to ortholinear boards. I’m not sure I ever want to go back to staggered now.

How long did it take you to acclimate to the ortholinear? BTW if you decide to sell the hhkb, pm me. If it’s a Topre hhkb that is.

I took maybe an hour to acclimate to ortholinear. If you think about it, the numpad is on every standard keyboard is an it’s ortho. Not much to it really, I might even make a point that the staggered layout is harder to learn because it’s inconsistent on each hand when it comes to keys on the num row and the bottom letter keys. I just found it easier to move my fingers in a mostly straight up and down left right fashion.

I posted about getting mine a while ago and it’s now been my daily driver for months. Haven’t messed with the configuration in a while although I should as there are keys I put in familiar place like delete and tab that i just never use now that i put them in the thumb clusters. As a tip autoshift is not on by default and for me it is a gamechanger.
I learned to touch type, although i’m by no means great at it yet it is great to be able to focus without having to look at the keyboard so despite the initial frustration it was worth getting the blank keys.
Main downside you have to prepare for is that this keyboard will ruin every other keyboard for you. On my gaming one I can only game, when typing i’m absolutely lost.
So great choice overall and if you get frustrated just keep at it it will pay off big time and your wrists will thank you.

It finally arrived. Getting used to the ortholinear stuff, really bad in the beginning, got to less than 20 WPM first, now I’m at around 40. Can’t wait to get to the same performance I had before, but I’m already realizing that although I thought I was good at touch typing, I was not! I struggle to use the correct fingers everytime. I mean, when I have to move the indicator, I commonly move the whole hand and then lose the pink somewhere, let’s see if I can fix that.
