Unfortunately M1 air only supports a single external monitor, so I just have a curved wide monitor, with 50/50 split between editor and browser, and the laptop screen is used for slack and email.
If I could, I would add an extra fullhd monitor in portrait mode for terminal usage
Mac mini M1 with LG 34" as main display (iTerm maximised with tmux, lunar vim) and to the left a LG 27" with multiple desktops; 1 for mail/slack/message/calendar, 2nd for Safari and FF developer.
I use the multi desktop on my main screen too, first is iTerm, then SqlStudio Pro, empty one for 1 one-off tasks, other for TeamViewer, … just so I never need to overlap windows.
Have you thought about converting your iMac into a display? I think there are some vids/guides on how you can do that (EG: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=84xo8yhOAhM)
How much could you get for your iMac if you sold it? It it’s enough for a decent monitor that could be well worth it.

The iMac Pro has terrible thermals and I am sure it’s still going to find a way to blast off its jet engines… 
But maybe at one point I’ll just refuse to sell it or give it for recycling (for that they offer 550 EUR) and will try to DIY it. Interesting idea, thanks!
Thanks, bookmarked it. Generally I love the 6K Pro Art display but when the time comes (not soon, likely at least a year, more likely two) I’ll re-evaluate.

I think Dell offer free returns so if you could get Asus to do the same it’d be well worth comparing the two.

Not in Bulgaria. Well, mostly. I can and will buy it as my company’s tech which means I can return it almost anytime I wish but I am honestly not super bothered. I prefer to check it in a showroom but our country does not have those.
But you hit my main hesitation point: whether I should go for 6K display at 16:9 aspect ratio, or any other (but also high) resolution with 21:9.
As much as I absolutely love everything I’ve seen about the ProArt display, it’s also true that for a programmer workstation the 21:9 aspect ratio likely works better… But I also don’t want to settle for less pixels because my eyesight is not getting better.
Decisions, decisions! I am actually kind of glad that I can’t afford to do this operation currently, as the analysis paralysis would be very bad for me at my current state.
