<p>This is underrated! Javascript ecosystem is incompatibel with family life as is kinda requires you to track the latest hypes 24/7. The lib you choose today probably isn’t supported 5 years into the future. (not without 3 full rewrites of your codebase that is)</p>
<p>Used Material UI once. It switched at least 3 times from styling system within 8 years. Used ImmutableJS, development stalled for years. Redux? Went through 3 ‘best practices’ in 8 years.</p>
<p>It’s true that Phoenix apps also have been ‘rewritten’ a few times in this timespan, but Phoenix is still pre-1.0.</p>

<p>Phoenix and LiveView are great tools that help to take care of the client/server communication layer of a web app, but there is an extensive collection of tools and packages within the BEAM and community libraries for the other important stuff, like business logic and operational requirements.</p>

								<p>Possibly LINQ as Ecto is based on it, but I’ve never used it <img src="https://forum.elixirforum.com/images/emoji/apple/slight_smile.png?v=15" title=":slight_smile:" class="emoji" alt=":slight_smile:" loading="lazy" width="20" height="20">  I do know it lets you use its version of SQL on a variety of data structures outside of databases which is pretty awesome.</p>
<p>I agree with you, though, Ecto is a huge part of what I love about Elixir.  I was recently trying to get back into Rails so I’d have a bigger job pool, but man-oh-man did it ever become apparent just how advanced my Stockholm Syndrome with ActiveRecord used to be.</p>

<p>For me, I’ve come to appreciate the maintainability that comes from functional programming. Revisiting old Rails code is a very displeasureable experience:</p>
<ul>
<li>Ok, what’s monkey patched in this context?</li>
<li>What instance variables does every method change?</li>
<li>Is that a local variable or a method call?</li>
<li>Are any methods overridden in the stupid OO hierarchy?</li>
</ul>
<p>It’s just a total minefield. Compared to revisiting old Elixir code:</p>
<ul>
<li>Look at the arguments and return value. That’s it (most of the time).</li>
</ul>
