they didn’t break anything. It’s free, and literally every revision is available on GH. So the thing they already gave you(for free) you still have(for free). They simply released more stuff(for free) that you don’t like when compared to the old stuff(that was free)

One of the winning moves by Elixir was explicit long term stability. Imagine if José released every new Elixir version breaking existing projects, and said “It’s free, so don’t complain”.

Now, it is understandable why it’s missing in this case, and I got the answer that I needed straight from the developer. I’ll decide later what is the proper course of action in my case, and maybe will do as suggested (forking).

Your demo has this file:

And uses Resource.count/3:

{:ok, item_count} = Resource.count(count_criteria, socket.assigns, live_resource)

Whereas in my project which is built from scratch today the failure file is:

../lib/backpex/live_resource/index.ex

Did something with the arity change since your demo til now? Or am I missing something conceptually? Any guidance is much appreciated.

Hey,

as stated in our upgrade guide, we changed the arity of a few adapter functions with Backpex v0.15.

So
count/3
becomes
count/4
because it now receives the list of fields as the second param.

We need the list of fields inside the adapter, as fields can be configured to be hidden on certain views. Previously, we fetched the fields from the
live_resource
inside the Ecto adapter functions.

We include the list as an extra param to make it more explicit.

Therefore, you have to pass the list of fields to
list/4
,
count/4
,
get/4
and
get!/4
. You can fetch it from the assigns (
assigns.fields
) like this:

fields = socket.assigns.fields
Resource.count(count_criteria, fields, socket.assigns, live_resource)

You might have noticed that we’ve released Backpex v0.15. This release focuses on developer experience by shipping an Igniter task (
mix backpex.install
) to install Backpex into an existing Phoenix LiveView application. We plan to add more useful tasks in the future

We’ve also upgraded Backpex to Phoenix 1.8. While you don’t have to change the configuration in your LiveResource, we expect the configured layout to be a component, which is the recommended way to add dynamic app layouts with Phoenix 1.8.

The release also includes some bug fixes and updates to the docs as well as some adapter changes.

Make sure to read the upgrade guide for migration instructions and breaking changes.
