I do see where those people are coming from and can partially agree. But, most projects I worked on and almost every single one I heard of don’t need that amount of performance (even though their devs are very sure that they do).
If I have to make a prediction: somebody will start rewriting a subset of the BEAM VM in Rust or Zig, or another low-level strongly statically typed language with a very good optimizing compiler (and an amazing runtime interpreter). F.ex. most of us don’t need hot code reloading but many of us would love to have transparently persistent actors.
I disagree with anyone who says Elixir is not a general-purpose PL though. That’s obviously nonsense. You can do absolutely anything you like with it, the only question is are you willing to put your elbow grease to it.
