Exactly. I am saying exactly this. I am an adult human being, and if I need to commute somewhere, I do commute, otherwise I don’t even leave my appartment.
You might argue that the example has been contrived, and a need to commute could involve a taxi after 15 mins, I’ll tell you, that we have processes on that matter, and I’d spawn one getting me to taxi in 15 mins and monitoring my presense on the platform to be able to gracefully suicide once the train comes.
Actions are mapped to processes, not to conditionals in BEAM. And “action = if smth then action1 else action2” is always a sign of bad design. Always.

Processes are not an alternative to flow control and they’re incomparably more expensive, but you already know that.
But that’s not the issue here. The issue is in what seems a made up stat that humans never face just two possible options (if/else) but always face 3+ (case). Sorry, but that’s simply not true, and it would take far more than a couple of anecdotal evidences to prove otherwise with or without Erlang or any other processes.
