								<p>I’m not so worried about today, but in 3-5 years when the cognitive decline has really hit and we’re all in a complete “nobody knows anything and nothing works” world.</p>
<p>I use Opus very frequently, I review everything, but I have never felt dumber. I don’t like confusing learning with understanding, it’s not the same thing. I understand the very advanced SQL queries I see be generated, I haven’t learnt a single thing by understanding them though.<br>
You don’t become a doctor by watching Grey’s Anatomy.</p>
<p>Does it matter? Not likely, software in general is in an all time low in my opinion and will probably just continue getting worse. Nobody (as in the amount of people that matters) care, and haven’t since long before LLM’s.</p>

								<p>Interesting, I will say about coding it make kind of sense, but the world of development is not only coding, it’s review, designing, debugging, testing and more, I feel I only code 5-10% of my time, by giving real input to AI, he can also help you with the other issues (Again it depend on you as user to learn how to use AI correctly with this, saw a lot try, it took me a while personally), but it does save me a lot of time in development world, I can say personally when you factor all the different subject of development world, I think it reduce my work by around 20%-40%.</p>

<p>Well, not really. Most people who spent enough time reading through LLM generated code conclude that it’s quite different from what an average developer would produce. It’s vulnerable to a whole different class of errors. And this makes sense, as it is produced by something that is not a developer. It <em>is</em> different and it presents a genuinely new challenge. Saying that it’s just like any other bad code is sidestepping the problem.</p>

<p>I’m glad that it works for you, but I’m afraid you might eventually run out of people to punish. Or find yourself in a situation where you’re punished for not consuming enough tokens, not shipping enough features and slowing down the team through code reviews.</p>
<p>AI presents a systemic challenge and ignoring it won’t make it go away.</p>

								<p>Could be. Pre 4.5, agentic coding felt like a novelty and mostly a waste of time. With 4.5, it was the first time I, and seemingly many others, felt “wow this thing is much more capable”. It still does dumb things, writes bad code from time to time, and is not to be fully trusted. Still I think it would be much more interesting to see what the results of a similar study reveal now. Perhaps there remains a collective delusion as to its capabilities and impact on productivity but it doesn’t feel that way.</p>
