Because coming from US middle/upper middle class, (fortunately for them) never having to live a day of their life in socialism, while building their fortune in and owing everything they made to a still in great part capitalist society by selling their bashing of the US and capitalism and promoting socialism is as hypocritical as it gets, to say the least.

Anyway, even if someone is a hypocrite, it doesn’t automatically make the part of their message that is self-consistent invalid.

Of course not, but making a fortune thanks to the system by criticizing it is, as is preaching the gospel of equality and non conformity from an ivory tower (or a $10M mansion).

Do you have a source on that 10M mansion? From estimates that is like half of their (individual) wealth. I’m starting to feel a bit silly defending a defunct rock band and their money, but when they (and people like them) actually go out and do the work they preach, as well as make large donations, I have much less of a problem with them.
The USA already has some socialism. Despite perhaps confusing names, socialists/anti-capitalists don’t seek to completely remove capitalism, they just want more socialism.

The last time I looked up Tom Morello his net worth alone was around $40M and the mansion was around $10M. I mean it’s nothing compared to all the billionaires and all, and I’m really happy for them. Their music was a genre in itself, and they deserved every penny, IMO. All it takes is admitting there’s no room for a moral high ground there or idolizing them.
Unfortunately. 2/3rds of the federal budget is welfare, let alone all the wealth redistribution (and fraud!) at the local/state level. But the spirit and the investment climate is still there, something (the continental) Europe never had.

Ya looks like Tom is worth quite a bit more than the rest. I’m not saying he’s squeaky clean or anything but it’s hardly wealth-hoarding, especially for the other guys who apparently have half as much. Tom Morello sure seems to think Tom Morello is pretty cool, though 
I honestly don’t know much about the European investment climate. In general, I actually don’t know a whole lo about the US either! I’ve been paying more attention in the last two years than every before, though.
As an aside (while this thread is still getting a bit derailed), this convo reminded me of a few years back when I found Rage’s s/t on cassette and made the classic mistake of not checking the tape itself. Of course, I had to share this with @dimitarvp (sorry/not sorry for dragging you into this

I think criticizing systems that actually benefit oneself is a sign of integrity, if anything. Are soldiers who oppose wars hypocrites? Free people who call for prison reform/abolition? No one is morally pure, and as @derek-zhou pointed out, discrediting arguments based on the the status, moral or otherwise, of the one making them is just textbook ad hominem.
I don’t particularly care if you want label the problem “capitalism” or “corporatism” anyway. The point is that the powers that be do not care if AI or SI or AGI can replace top programmers, or even mediocre programmers. They’re quite clearly, proven, to be perfectly happy with enshittification. Technology won’t protect us from enshittification, even if it might temporarily offset it in places. We have to protect us from enshittification.

Correct. Free markets (or what’s left of them) will. Again, IFF permitted by the government (the anti-free market, anti-voluntary exchange, pro-collectivism force). My guess is it’s going to be business as usual with yet another Fed put preventing the creative destruction.
