As of 2018, I’ve been building GIS web apps for the last 5 years in Richmond, VA, and until recently have been largely focused on the front-end. In the last couple years I’ve become a huge proponent and enthusiast of learning and evangelizing functional programming, with a particular interest in Elm and Elixir. I’ve been lucky in the last year in that I’ve been able to develop two non-trivial apps using Elm, one of which also uses Elixir for the back-end. I’m extra super particularly interested in the application of FP to GIS, which has been dominated for several decades by the likes of OOP heavy-weights Java and Python, and more recently, JavaScript.
