That’s what the Nerves project does more or less.

Yeah, I’ve been thinking about that recently! I haven’t really checked at Nerves yet (still learning the basics of Elixir and Phoenix right now), but this has made me want to check it out even more. I enjoy tinkering with hardware as well (although I’m not particularly good at it).

Running BEAM in the Web Browser

Continuing the discussion from WebAssembly and Elixir: I would like to fork the above thread to continue the narrower discussion of how to get BEAM up and running in web browsers, so that we can run Erlang and Elixir code in them. As @dbern mention in that thread, it seems like DockYard is exploring the idea of compiling Elixir and the BEAM to Web Assembly, which is a related topic. Do you have any thoughts on what would be the main benefits and challenges of getting BEAM to run in the web br…

What about a smart phone with a BEAM-y OS, possibly with hardware optimized for the BEAM? (The obvious problem is that the market already has too many smart phones - what would make this one any different from a consumer perspective?)
