This Full-Time Software Engineer position is based at Amtelco’s corporate headquarters in McFarland, WI and reports to our Vice President of Software Development. Determined by your manager, the benefit of a hybrid workplace model occurs at different times for each employee based on job performance.

How will I make an impact?

  • Work independently and with the Real-Time Intelligence team to design and develop real-time intelligence components for Amtelco’s communications applications
  • Utilize and further develop your experience with functional style programming in languages such as Erlang, Elixir, Haskell, or other functional languages
  • Maintain up-to-date records of all software development activities in the department’s feature and defect tracking software
  • Use the department’s source code control software to create and maintain discrete versions of all code produced
  • Participate in code reviews with the Real-Time Intelligence Application Development Team and Senior Software Engineers
  • Conduct functionality, integrity, and security testing on all code produced as a step in the software development process
  • Assist the Field Engineering Team in troubleshooting customer-reported issues
  • Take a sense of ownership and pride in your performance and its impact on Amtelco’s success
  • Participate in weekly department and team meetings
  • Provide department managers with a written weekly report of development activities

Qualifications or experience required:
What does success look like in this role?

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred, associate degree required, with an emphasis in software application development
  • 3-5 years of practical experience writing codes in mainstream programming language (C#, Java, JavaScript, Python) and contributing to production software projects
  • Solid knowledge of:
    • Front-end technologies such as HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
    • NLP (Natural Language Processing), LLMs (Large Language Models), or Machine Learning
    • Tailwind CSS
    • Functional programming (Erlang, Elixir, Haskell)
    • REST APIs
    • Good security practices
  • Strong attention to detail in UI
  • Ability to think analytically and apply programming knowledge to solve real-world problems
  • Ability to troubleshoot problems and come up with solutions
  • Ability to effectively communicate with non-technical individuals about application design
  • Ability to handle complex tasks and demonstrate a deep understanding & best practice of the technologies that are being used
  • Great time-management skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Experience in an answering service or healthcare environment helpful
