Senior Elixir Engineer - Stitched.co.uk - London, UK

Introductory paragraph

Are you a senior Elixir or Ruby on Rails engineer? Do you want an actual Elixir job? Not just a microservice, but a full platform? Come work for Stitched!

We’ve built an efficient CMS fully based on Elixir, using a novel approach to page data storage. Our pages now render in ~20ms, including database queries and with no caching. This has given us a great platform to build off and we have lots of plans to do just that. Oh, and we’re all-in on LiveView :rocket:

Also, we’re nearly a B-Corp!

About us

My name: Chris Bull
My position: CTO
Company name: Stitched
Website: https://www.stitched.co.uk
Country: UK

Stitched.co.uk is a fast growing company founded in 2016 selling made-to-measure curtains and blinds using 3D customisation technology (moving into other home décor products soon!). Check us out on www.stitched.co.uk and @madebystitched on social!

We believe in a new generation of products that are made from sustainable materials, rather than mass produced synthetic alternatives that are harmful to the environment. We also believe in the power of technology to help customers buy the products they love.

Building a great business is the thing that gets us out of bed in the morning. We’re a pending B-Corp and believe that a better business should focus as much on its employees, customers, suppliers and the world around us as fast growth and profit.

We are backed by the lead early investors in Not-on-the-High-St, Just Eat and Lyst and have ambitious growth plans, starting with making some superstar hires to join the Stitched family at our great office in Victoria. Is that you?

About the job

Job title: Senior Backend Engineer
Position on remote work: No thanks
Qualifications or experience required: A number of years of programming, not necessarily professionally in Ex, however a couple of projects to demo is good.
What the successful job applicant will be working on: Building out our backend platform, everything from CMS, content personalisation, 3D asset transformation and delivery, e-commerce dynamic pricing and ordering.

We’re looking for an experienced developer who loves working closely with their team - we’re a very collaborative bunch. Ideally you’ll be curious about all things software engineering and love bringing this to work - our current dev book club book is Category Theory for Programmers, e.g.

We’re a forward-thinking shop. We don’t use every new technology, but we will use something if it really delivers - we’ve gone all in on Phoenix LiveView, for example, as it is a genuinely brilliant piece of tech that dramatically simplifies development.

As an early developer at Stitched you’ll be given a lot of freedom to make smart engineering decisions and influence the direction of our platform.

We are a rapidly growing startup, so this is a chance to be in on the ground floor and help shape that growth.

About the interview process

Quick phone screen, then a simple 2-3 hour test project. If that’s good we’ll get you in for a face to face interview which may include pairing on extending part of your test project - we do a lot of pairing and collaboration.
