Etsy just posted a job on Devtalk (link) and my first thought was that Elixir/Erlang would be a good fit for them since they’re quite a high-traffic site.
Have you ever thought similar? Any well known/popular sites or apps you think would be a good fit for Elixir?
My irrational belief is that almost any SaaS can be cloned in Elixir and be a profitable business simply because it will be so cheap to run and develop.
Well… the Discourse forum software itself. Which is what ElixirForum is also running on.
Anyone willing to sponsor me with $12k a month for two years until I port it?
I quite agree with @martosaur though. Most projects I’ve ever seen in my life would fare amazingly well if rewritten in Elixir.
Every e-commerce project I worked on. Most fintech apps (minus high-load near-real-time crypto and stock exchanges). Real estate. Ticket reservations! Even video orchestration software – did we not get a proof of that lately, that some stadiums and sport events used Elixir for that?
Really, unless you need a lot of raw performance or need 10k throwaway objects (GC languages like Elixir and Golang struggle there) in the span of 5ms or such, then Elixir would do great.
