I’m curious how this is important to the product?
I too thought it an odd thing to start with, given the sensitivity of that question for some people. Especially considering that is not very important in the context of a professional profile. I am pretty sure just having “other” is offensive to some people.

I’m not expert so best to do some research around inclusive gender options on web forms. You might need to give non-binary, prefer not to say, custom options.

On some platforms I manage we simply have a non-required field for Gender with Your gender identity as the helper text - it seems to keep most people happy. However I’d agree with what some of the others have said, it’s probably not that useful on a LinkedIn type site, where people are more likely to upload photos of themselves as their profile pic.

Outside of the technical merits, I must say I’m impressed that you actually have almost 6000 members, and some activity. Bootstrapping a community that is an alternative to the one place where (almost) everyone already is a very hard problem.

Indeed it is a tough problem to tackle. But most people are not happy with LinkedIn. So somebody has to do the first step.
