I’ve no idea what it costed in absolute terms as I’m only using the subscriptions but for the meagre ~216 EUR a month I am paying, I keep making my SQLite library more and more stable and resistant to timeouts, filesystem errors, sudden bursts of work, out-of-memory conditions (within reasonable limits of course), cancellations that don’t let runaway jobs crash your apps that use the library, and more.

Fable has proven itself as an extremely capable discussion partner and it helps me test ideas in practically 20x less time than it would take me to do it manually. One chief complaint though: it super rarely offers new approaches unless I chase after it and give it a few starting pointers. Shame but hey, our education – formal or self-made – has to shine through, somewhere.

Also my dotfiles setup benefited greatly. I now have scripts and backup machinery to stand up a new machine in my fleet as quickly as that machine can install and compile packages. Tightened my routers a lot, about to introduce Tailscale via Headscale, made anti-adblock rock-solid on the router level (so it automatically is not consulted if the mini-server falls down), almost finished my VPN-wide media center and many, many others. My machines have never been as stable and safe (automatic backups every 10 minutes and whatnot).

As mentioned in another thread: de-slopifying the code remains so far elusive. I am super gradually and slowly tightening the bolts but there’s only so much you can do when your job is booking you at 120%.

I created a server manager with environments management and deployment with releases. I do have several projects (small in their nature) and each new one takes me time to setup. Now i can do it in few minutes. My dev environment is in the cloud and any development happens there directly and it is behind vpn. Stage is public - releases. Prod is public with releases. The “Control plane” has an option to migrate data (both files and db) in any direction. I am using Alma linux for dev and Freebsd for stage and prod. Recently added security patching checks. All comes from the elixir project. Added also kanban board per project to put any pending tasks i have in mind and to see them in one place. All that has the option to read the config per environment i supply or create new one. The enviroment include the git repo, folder location, it’s own user to run it, database creation with it’s own role, certificate, nginx config and the system process / rc.d scirpt. I have also console directly to the server via xterm. Checks for each config and service restarts. Integration via api with Hetzner dns and project, to my gitlab, my vpn and all happens in one go. Pretty happy with all that. As for how much it cost - around 30€. All done with fable. I would probably develop it further until i have all tools i need for my project work. Not in a public repo at the moment.

That’s really cool! Not sure if you are planning it, but having a top list (most ‘watched’ shows) would be a great way to drive traffic to your site - when short of time I’ve often wished there was a ‘what’s popular now’ on TV, what would be even better is to have lists like we do on our new homepage - what’s popular now, what’s popular over a month, year, 5 years, and all time. It could help drive viewers to classics. It could bring you revenue from advertisers too as I imagine those pages would get quite a lot of visitors

In this case It’d depend on the context. The blog posts section can’t be used to circumvent our usual rules/guidelines, so if it’s a contentious issue between two members (even if one is company) it might be best kept off the forum. They could blog about other things tho, and then people might discover it by clicking through to other links while on their blog.

So it depends - Igor, feel free to PM if you want to check

If you go to search it actually shows you the most popular shows for the last twelve months based on the TVmaze data It’s a bit of a chicken and egg, I just fetch data from TVmaze really, so I can’t make the lists myself unless I have a lot of users.
But I could definitely expand on the exploration aspect of it, thanks for the kind words and suggestions!
