Been seeing more and more of these recently - they are essentially homemade portable computers, often built in a robust case in case catastrophe hits. Some of them are very cool!
I’ve considered making a modernized modular version of the Compaq Portable III from the 80s. So more like a suitcase than a deck, but it would allow for desktop components, a 23"-24" monitor and a nice keyboard. And many M2 connectors for storage.
That way I could drag along a proper computer when going off somewhere.
And lots of connections. For some reason notebooks have so few connections these days. I do want Ethernet ports, HDMI, lots of USB, and even some less common ones like i2c and classic 9-pin serial.
