Software Engineer - Soluna, Remote USA

Introductory paragraph

At Soluna, we are on a mission to make renewable energy a global superpower using computing as a catalyst. We design, develop and operate digital infrastructure that transforms surplus renewable energy into global computing resources. We are seeking a Software Engineer to help build the future of our site control systems and data infrastructure.

About us

My name: Derek Meer
My position: Software Engineer II
Company name: Soluna
Company website: https://www.solunacomputing.com/
Company headquarters (country): New York, USA
Company info and history:

We introduced Elixir to our control system for data collection. As we run into limits imposed by technologies chosen for other parts of the system, we will migrate those to Elixir. Elixir will be core to our strategy moving forward due to the great match between Elixir/the BEAM’s capabilities and the requirements of our facilities.

More details about our facilities can be found on our website. As you can see, we have a few active projects but several more in the pipeline. Each one has unique constraints, and we’re building systems to help manage all of them. Plenty of work to do!

About the job

Job title: Software Engineer
Job description: Software Engineer
Salary range: Pegged to the top 25% of similar-level software developer salaries in New York. Level determination is based on experience.
Qualifications or experience required:

  • Ability to work in multiple languages (Elixir, Python, SQL, Node-RED) across multiple platforms
  • Familiarity with Elixir, along with a desire to deeply learn Elixir/OTP/the BEAM, is required. Production Elixir experience is a strong differentiator.
  • Experience with AWS and managing lightweight cloud operations
  • Experience developing and improving the tools and processes required for developing and shipping quality software
  • An appreciation for testing and validation
  • Experience or desire to develop and maintain mission critical applications

What the successful job applicant will be working on:

  • Help architect and build the control system (Maestro) for our Data Centers
