Full Stack Software Engineer - UCP MM, Minnesota, US

Introductory paragraph

UCP Merchant Medicine is the full-service partner for health systems building or transforming Modern Urgent Care programs: strategy to define it, operational expertise to launch it, and Intellivisit AI to run it. Our Intellivisit platform reduces door-to-door times, improves consistency of care, and helps clinicians stay focused on patients.

About us

My name: Matt Chadwick
My position: System Architect — Development Team Lead
Company name: UCP Merchant Medicine
Company website: https://www.ucpmm.com/
Company headquarters (country): US
Company info and history (how you’re using Elixir etc): The development team is using Elixir for new product development. We have a mix of existing, non-Elixir applications that we also support. These consist primarily of Angular, NestJS and Python. As we are a small dev team, everyone wears several hats.

About the job

Job title: Full Stack Software Engineer
Job description: This is a full stack role with a broad footprint: Angular and Phoenix LiveView on the frontend; NestJS, Python, and Elixir on the backend; and DevOps woven throughout. We don’t expect fluency in all of it on day one — but we do expect you to hit the ground running in your areas of strength and grow deliberately into the rest.
Salary range: $130k-160k
Qualifications or experience required:

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience

Experience

  • Minimum of 4 years of professional software development experience
  • Demonstrated full stack experience
  • Experience working in a small, agile team environment
  • Exposure to regulated industries or compliance-driven environments (HIPAA, SOC 2, HITRUST) is a plus
  • Experience working on distributed or fully remote teams

Technical Competencies

  • Experience with Elixir with Phoenix and LiveView in a production environment
  • TypeScript / JavaScript with solid production experience in a modern frontend framework and a Node-based backend
  • Python — Django and/or dlt (preferred)
  • RESTful API design and consumption
  • Relational databases (PostgreSQL preferred)
  • Version control with Git; comfort with pull request workflows and code review
  • DevOps experience: CI/CD pipelines, containerization (Docker), cloud infrastructure
  • Prior work in healthcare or with PHI
  • Observability tooling (logging, metrics, alerting)

What the successful job applicant will be working on:

  • Design, build, and maintain full stack features across multiple initiatives, primarily in TypeScript/JavaScript (Angular, NestJS) with exposure to Elixir (Phoenix LiveView), Python (Django and dlt), and DevOps
  • Contribute to backend services and APIs with an understanding of data flow, security boundaries, and system reliability in a regulated environment
  • Build, extend, and maintain integrations with third-party EHR platforms
  • Participate in all phases of the software development lifecycle, from requirements and design through deployment and monitoring
  • Share ownership of quality at every level — writing unit and component tests as part of normal development, contributing to end-to-end UI test coverage with Playwright, and treating testing as a first-class part of the work, not a handoff
  • Engage in code reviews, technical discussions, and collaborative problem-solving as an active contributor to how the team works and improves
  • Leverage AI-assisted development tools as a standard part of your workflow
  • Adapt to shifting priorities and project needs in a small agile team — the work will vary and that’s by design
  • Contribute to the ongoing improvement of our engineering practices, tooling, and developer experience

Position on remote work

Remote job: yes but with with occasional in-person meetings
Remote restrictions: Minnesota, US (or close cross-border location to the Minneapolis - St. Paul metro)
Remote leeway: no
Any other notes about your position on remote work: Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the U.S.

About the interview process

  • Screening call
  • Technical interview with the engineering team
  • Additional steps depending on engineering team discretion
May involve portfolio review, take home projects, pair programming sessions.
  • Final interview with CEO
