Often multiple entities need to be updated at once and depending on the entities there may need to be events emitted, logs written, or other actions executed for each entity.

When multiple functions have similar logic for managing data, not only is there an opportunity for inconsistent behavior, it becomes necessary to know about all the side effects required for each entity. This isn’t simply a violation of the dry principle, this approach requires a heavy cognitive load, conflates responsibilities, and risks an inconsistent system.

Using Multis and Oban can get you far but adding support for transactions with callbacks can provide a pattern that can provide consistent transactions and side effects. This talk will show an implementation for transaction callbacks and code examples of how using callbacks lowers cognitive load, simplifies your codebase, and improves consistency.
