Full Stack Software Engineer - Frontline Wildfire Defense, US, Remote

Introduction

Founded in 2017 by landscape ecologist and fire mitigation expert Harry Statter, Frontline developed the first fully integrated wildfire defense system to stop the leading cause of home loss in wildfires: ember-driven ignition. The system combines exterior sprinklers, full-coverage design, and connected software for remote monitoring and response, allowing homes to protect themselves long after families evacuate or infrastructure fails.

Proven effective during the 2025 Los Angeles wildfires, 96% of homes with Frontline systems survived. That success has earned top industry recognition, including Frontline being recognized as one of TIME’s Best Inventions 2025 in the Green Tech category and receiving the PCBC Gold Nugget Award for “Most Innovative Housing Concept” and the Best of IBS Award for “Best Home Technology.”

As wildfires grow hotter and more frequent, our vision is to give people the tools and strategies to live safely with fire. We’re building a mission-driven team creating real-world solutions in wildfire safety and climate tech.

About the job

Job title: Full Stack Software Engineer

About This Opportunity: Frontline’s software platform is real, deployed, and proven - but there is significantly more to build. The right engineer for this role is a builder at heart: someone who can assess what exists, identify what’s missing, and drive the work to close that gap. You’ll be adding to a foundation that already works, shaping the systems and architecture that will scale with the company as it grows nationally. If you’re energized by the combination of existing momentum and genuine greenfield opportunity, this is that role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain full-stack applications that support internal operations and customer-facing platforms.

  • Develop and connect to backend services and APIs using Elixir/Phoenix/LiveView, and PostgreSQL/PostGIS.

  • Build frontend interfaces in React + TypeScript that streamline internal workflows across all functions.

  • Lead and contribute to design reviews and architecture discussions, with a voice in key technical decisions

  • Integrate APIs with cloud infrastructure (AWS, Kubernetes, Terraform) and telemetry data pipelines.

  • Improve reliability, observability, and deployment efficiency through CI/CD and testing automation.

  • Lead in design reviews, architecture discussions, and code reviews to ensure scalability and maintainability.

Compensation & Benefits:

  • Salary Range: $155,000- $190,000 DOE

  • Company-provided cell phone and laptop

  • Medical, Dental, and Vision Insurance

  • 401(k) retirement plan

  • Flexible time off + 14 paid holidays (yes, your birthday is one of them!)

  • Work-from-home stipend to support your remote setup

  • Remote-first work environment, fostering work-life balance and autonomy

  • Join a high-performing, mission-driven team doing work that truly matters

  • And much more!

Qualifications or experience required:

Must-Have:

  • 5 - 8+ years in full-stack or backend-focused engineering, with at least 2 years in a startup or high-growth environment a plus.

  • Proficiency in Elixir/Phoenix. Production Elixir experience a strong differentiator.

  • Experience building APIs (GraphQL/REST) and integrating with cloud-based services.

  • Strong frontend skills in React + TypeScript.

  • Solid understanding of PostgreSQL, TimescaleDB, or similar relational databases.

  • Familiarity with AWS, Docker, Kubernetes, and Terraform.

  • Excellent collaboration skills; comfortable working cross-functionally in a small, fast-paced team.

Nice-to-Have

  • Experience with geospatial data systems (PostGIS, Mapbox, ArcGIS).

  • Background in IoT, telemetry, or real-time systems.

  • Experience building internal tools or automation systems.

  • Familiarity with CI/CD, monitoring, or observability tooling (Grafana, Loki, CloudWatch).

  • Prior experience in a startup or mission-driven tech environment.
