Work experience: I am software engineer with 13+ years of experience, 10 of which were in Elixir. I have been active member of this community for over 8 years now, I am, at the time of writing, 10th user with most hearths on this forum. I have contributed to wide range of the community projects, including Elixir and Erlang themselves. I have helped with improving observability and performance across the ecosystem. I have been working in smaller and larger teams.
Languages: My main languages are Elixir and Erlang, but I have moderate experience with Rust, Ruby, C, C++, Clojure, and Haskell. I am tipping my toes into Gleam as well.
Interested in: Helping to build/maintain/grow software with interesting products. Either something new and in early stage, or something already established on the marked, doesn’t matter as long as it brings real value to the people. It can be something more permanent or consulting job.

If only that would converse…

I can only speak from experience but I’m certain your online presence has an impact - I’ve posted this a few times now but when I first got into programming and was active online I received a number of job offers from well known companies, even though that was never my intention.
One specifically said “we love your enthusiasm/energy” and another said “it’s hard to find good people”. This is why I share this experience - that who you are and how you appear to the world matters (if getting a job is important to you) because people generally hire people.
While it’s great having technical prowess, unless you have a very unique, almost unmatched skill-set or insight, the sort of person you are matters just as much if not more (I think I was proof of that, as I had literally just started out on my programming journey so on paper I probably would have been the worst candidate (in terms of experience anyway)).
Having said that, things have definitely changed with the advent of AI and work place culture in general, and so I don’t know now whether this is more or less applicable (do people care anymore? Or do they just want code output at conveyor belt speeds?)
One thing seems to be certain tho, it appears to be getting harder and harder for people to find work …which in one way makes me feel that who you are as a person may actually matter even more now.
