About the job

Job title: Senior Software Engineer
Job description: As a Senior Software Engineer at Ethermed, you will play a central role in architecting and scaling our event-driven healthcare automation platform. While we work across multiple languages and frameworks, this role is anchored in Elixir. You’ll design and build distributed, resilient services in Elixir (Phoenix, Broadway, OTP), shape our event-driven architecture, and create intuitive tooling on top of our modular back-end. You’ll also collaborate with colleagues working in Python to integrate LLM-powered workflows and healthcare-specific automation.

This role is perfect for an engineer who thrives in a fast-moving, remote-first culture and wants to apply deep Elixir expertise to solve some of the hardest problems in healthcare automation.

Architect, design, and implement services and microservices primarily in Elixir (Phoenix, Broadway, GenStage, OTP).

  1. Contribute to the design and scaling of our event-driven architecture, with heavy use of message queues and streams (RabbitMQ, Kafka, Broadway pipelines).
  2. Build APIs and internal tooling that make our Elixir-powered back-end accessible, maintainable, and extensible.
  3. Collaborate with teammates building LLM-driven workflows in Python, ensuring smooth integration between Elixir and Python components.
  4. Develop and deploy applications within Kubernetes environments (ideally AKS).
  5. Leverage Terraform/Terragrunt and GitOps workflows (e.g., Kustomize) for infrastructure management.
  6. Identify and adapt relevant open-source Elixir and Python projects from GitHub into our platform.
  7. Work with structured and unstructured clinical data (FHIR, HL7, payer-side healthcare data, images), ensuring secure and compliant handling.
Salary range: 150-170K Base + Bonus + Equity
    Qualifications or experience required:

5+ years building full stack applications, with 3+ years of production Elixir experience.

  1. Proven expertise in Elixir frameworks: Phoenix, Broadway, OTP, GenStage.
  2. Deep understanding of event-driven architectures and message queue technologies.
  3. Strong experience deploying distributed systems in Kubernetes environments.
  4. Familiarity with Terraform/Terragrunt and GitOps workflows (Kustomize).
  5. Ability to identify, evaluate, and adapt open-source GitHub projects.
  6. Self-sufficient in secure and compliant development practices (HIPAA, tenant isolation, auditability).
