ElixirConf 2024 Proposal The Elixir ecosystem offers Livebook, a collaborative code notebook similar to Python’s Jupyter Notebooks. Livebook offers a rich set of features that can enhance productivity and understanding, but it reaches further than Data Science. Livebook provides a toolset for engineers to collaborate across teams to evaluate, engage, and empower through both code and data.

In the evolving landscape of software engineering, fostering empathy across teams and departments is paramount. This talk will showcase how Elixir Livebook can be a potent tool immediately for technical and non-technical collaborators. Livebook acts as a digital magnifying glass into data. Engineers can use Livebook to create value by fostering a unified understanding of that data and its applications.

Livebook offers intuitive features that allow us to easily visualize data, document applications interactively, give users inactive UI elements, and integrate widely from HuggingFace to Snowflake. We will explore real-world examples of how Livebook has strengthened cross-team communication and empowered non-technical team members in times of limited engineering resources.

Attendees will leave with an understanding of the importance of empathy in cross-functional teams. Moreover, they’ll be equipped with actionable takeaways to harness Livebook’s potential in their daily workflows to elevate ownership, engage with bugs, empower data, and build trust and safety across teams.
