Hey folks,
I just published a post about Hologram’s funding and where the project goes next - the short version:
Curiosum as Main Sponsor, the EEF’s milestone program and the GitHub sponsors funded the most productive stretch in Hologram’s history - four feature releases this year (most of the stdlib working in the browser, JavaScript interop, a full realtime layer, events and middleware), and the first production apps have shipped.
The EEF milestone round wraps up with v0.11. A second round is on the table, and company support earmarked for Hologram through the Foundation is what unlocks it. The next stretch is local-first, baked into the framework - and whether it gets built comes down to a few companies stepping in.

If your company uses Elixir and might want to back open source work, the post covers what sponsoring gets you. Happy to answer anything here.

Congrats Bart - you’ve done a great job!
Your blog post also inspired updating the Official News blocks on our new forums to include any blog posts posted by core team members
bartblast
Thanks Aston, appreciate it - and glad it inspired the News blocks change
Though I think I buried the ask under the retrospective - what came back was congratulations, here and on Reddit too: https://www.reddit.com/r/elixir/comments/1v3knc2/eight_months_ago_i_asked_for_help_funding/
So, plainly: the first round of EEF milestones finishes with v0.11, as planned, and without new sponsors I won’t be able to work on Hologram full time. Details and both routes are in the post.

Hey Bart, I’m just catching up on this. I just started using Hologram on a new project and I’m loving it. Will DM you to see how I can support $$.
Thanks for the hard work!!

Curious what you’re building with Hologram - if you can share, please do!

I’m (finally) working on a solo project focused on interval training. The app itself is currently only for iOS (so Swift) and I’m starting work on the companion web app (this is where Hologram fits in).
If you are curious, I do long distance running and I do a lot of interval training and I do not particularly like any of the apps I’ve tried (I will also admit that I gave up on trying apps and decided I wanted to tackle this myself just cause I love this). So I’ve spent some time thinking about the domain and data model, trying to find the right language to build what I have in my head. I’m now still at a pre-beta stage, but the app is good enough that I’m training with it (Beta aims for treadmill only). Still, there is a long way to go, but I’m having a ton of fun. Happy to share once I at least get it past my own set of standards
Anyways, I feel for everyone that has put their career on the side to build a better ecosystem for all of us to build our careers on (standing on the shoulders of giants and all that). I have been meaning to do something to help, but it was never the “right time”… today is still not the “right time”
but I came to the realization that I just needed to take the step forward. To add to this particular story, I personally met Bart at last year’s ElixirConfEU and I like him. Also, I can see that Hologram has the potential to push our ecosystem forward (like Phoenix, Liveview, Ash, Oban, … to name a few) and just want to be a part of what enables that.

Thanks Mauricio, for this and for everything else
Really like the story behind the app. Nothing out there fit, so you sat down with the domain model and built the thing you wanted. That’s the maker mindset, and I love it.
Also worth saying: the web companion is where Hologram fits today, but mobile is on the path. It comes after the local-first data layer and a few more capabilities, so not tomorrow, but it is coming!
