Anyone interested in a protest site built in Elixir?

A remark @Garrison made…

..has already inspired a thread for the technical side of reclaiming our internet, but there is of course another way which could help achieve the same thing: mobilising people via a platform that helps them shed light on issues and to organise and take action.

It’s actually not a new idea, and the original idea was to release in two phases - the first would be more light-hearted (to test the water) a place where people could let off steam and see what everyone else is fired up about:

And then if there was enough interest it could be expanded to help with organising action. (Please ignore the sample ‘hot topics’ they were just lifted from what was being hotly debated at the time.) Elixir would be the perfect fit as it has the potential to go viral :024:

As far as I know there aren’t any other platforms that do the same sort of thing as envisioned for this one, and with increasing censorship and shadow-banning of certain topics on social media there’s probably a greater need for such a site than there ever has been.

I won’t disclose the name/domain yet, but it’s a pretty good one! :icon_wink:

At this stage I’m curious if this is:

  • A topic that matters to you (not just for campaigning for a better web but general positive change/action)
  • Something you might like to get involved with.

For now please don’t mention any specific campaigns/topics you’d want to use the site for as that could quickly derail the thread, just whether it’s something that interests you or if you’d like to get involved : -)

So, it will be forum with political discussions. What makes your forum special? Backend technology?
